Privacy Policy
Short version: You sign in with your email and choose a username. We use your email only to create and secure your account. Megle does not access your contacts or location. Video and audio calls are not recorded. Stranger text chats are not stored. Messages to friends are end-to-end encrypted. You can delete your account and data at any time from Settings โ Delete my account & data.
1. Who we are
Megle is an 18+ app for meeting new people through random video and text chat and keeping in touch with friends. Contact us at megle@megaleapp.com.
2. Information we collect
- Account and sign-in. To use Megle you sign in with your email address, verified with a one-time code sent by email. We use it only to create your account, let you sign in again and secure it. It is not shown to other users. Accounts created earlier with Google keep that sign-in information until they are deleted.
- Username. The unique username you choose. Your username is your Megle ID. Signed-in users who know it can send you a friend request or block you, and it is shown to your friends, people you exchange friend requests with, and people who block you. It is not shown to strangers during a random chat.
- Matching preferences. The gender preference, the gender you choose to declare (or "prefer not to say") and your language.
- Activity and presence. When you were last online, and records of which accounts were connected in a chat, when, and whether it was text or video. These records do not contain what was said or shown.
- Friends. Friend requests, accepted friendships and the people you block.
- Friend messages. Messages you send to friends are encrypted on your device before they are sent. We store only the encrypted text, the time it was sent and whether it was read. We cannot read these messages. If you delete a message for everyone, its encrypted text is erased and only a deleted marker remains; if you delete it for yourself, it stays for the other person. Your device also publishes a public encryption key so friends can encrypt messages for you.
- Photo and video statuses. When you choose a photo or video from your gallery, you can edit it on your device, and Megle prepares a smaller copy with your edits, using up to 20 seconds of a video. Only if you tap send is that copy, with any caption you add, uploaded to our servers. It is not end-to-end encrypted. Only your accepted friends who have not blocked you, or been blocked by you, can open it. When you open a friend's status, that friend can see that you viewed it and when. A reply or reaction to a status is sent as an end-to-end encrypted friend message. It stops being available after 24 hours, or when you remove it, and the file is then deleted.
- Snaps. A video snap of up to 20 seconds that you record and choose to send to a friend is encrypted on your device, and only you and that friend hold the key, so we cannot view it. We store the encrypted file, who sent it to whom and when it was opened. The file is deleted after it is opened, or after 7 days if it is not, and the snap then disappears from the chat for both of you. A friend can still record their screen or film a snap with another device.
- Safety records. Reports you send or receive (who reported whom, the category and the time) and moderation records described in section 4.
Apart from a photo or video you choose to post as a status, we do not collect your contacts, photos, files, precise or approximate location, or advertising ID, and Megle shows no ads.
3. Camera, microphone and calls
- The camera and microphone are used only while you are in a call or searching for one, or while the snap camera is open.
- Video and audio go directly between the two devices in the call (peer-to-peer, encrypted with WebRTC). They are not sent to or recorded by Megle.
- To set up a peer-to-peer connection, your device's network (IP) address is shared with the other device in the call and with Google's public STUN servers. Call setup messages and stranger text chat pass through our realtime service in encrypted form and are not stored.
4. Automatic safety moderation
During stranger video calls, your own outgoing camera is checked on your device by an on-device machine-learning model for exposed male genitals. Camera images never leave your device for this check. If the model detects this content repeatedly within a few seconds, only the result (a content label and a confidence score) is sent to our servers, the call ends and stranger chat is locked on your account. We keep a record of the lock, the number of offenses and the time. Calls with friends are not checked. Photo and video statuses are checked the same way on your device while they are prepared; a detected file is discarded and never uploaded. Automated systems can make mistakes; you can appeal by emailing us with the reference code shown in the app.
5. Data stored on your device
Megle stores on your device: your sign-in session, the private key that decrypts your friend messages, names you give your friends, and your theme choice. This data stays on your device. Uninstalling the app or clearing its data removes it (and you will no longer be able to read earlier friend messages on that device).
6. How we use information
- To match you with other users and connect calls.
- To provide friends, friend calls and friend messages.
- To keep the community safe: handling reports, blocks, automatic moderation and enforcing our Terms.
- To prevent abuse such as spam and repeated violations.
7. Service providers and sharing
We use Supabase to host our database, sign-in and realtime messaging; Google to deliver sign-in emails; Razorpay to process token purchases (Razorpay collects your payment details directly, and we receive only the order and payment status); Google's public STUN servers to help devices connect; and Google Firebase to deliver phone notifications (it receives a device token and the notification, which shows the sender's Megle ID and says that a message, snap or call arrived, but never the content of your messages). They process data only to provide these services. We do not sell your data or share it for advertising. We may disclose information if required by law or to protect users' safety.
8. Retention and deletion
- Your data is kept until you delete your account.
- Delete in the app: Settings โ Delete my account & data. This immediately and permanently deletes your account and the data linked to it on our servers: profile, chat records, friends, friend requests, messages, blocks, reports, and moderation records. There is one exception to prevent abuse: if stranger chat is locked on your account when you delete it, we keep a one-way hash of your email address with the offense count, label, score and lock date. If an account is created with the same email, the lock is restored to it and this record is removed.
- Delete by email: email megle@megaleapp.com from the app's Settings screen with your request; we will complete it within 30 days.
9. Age requirement
Megle is only for people aged 18 or older. We do not knowingly allow anyone under 18. If you believe a user is under 18, report them in the app ("Looks under 18") or email us, and we will remove the account.
10. Security
Data is sent over encrypted connections (HTTPS/WSS), calls are encrypted end-to-end between devices, and friend messages are end-to-end encrypted. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information.
11. Changes
If we change this policy we will update the date above and, for significant changes, tell you in the app.
